Kashin, Auckland Zoo’s elephant, has passed away.

Yesterday, CS11 saw Kashin being prepared for burial as we walked down to MOTAT (Museum of Transport and Technology) . We are really sad that Kashin was in pain, and we feel sorry for her, and for her keepers at Auckland Zoo. We are having a competition to write the best cards for the zoo. We know they are going through the grief cycle and that we need to be there for them.

The Auckland Zoo is setting up a fund in Kashin’s memory, to help save elephants around the world. They are also going to hold a public memorial. You can visit the Conservation Fund here: Kashin Elephant Conservation Fund
or visit the Auckland Zoo website.

UPDATE: From the Zoo Website . . .

Mayor John Banks invites you to celebrate Kashin’s life at a memorial on Sunday 30 August at Auckland Zoo between 10am – 2pm.
