WALT leave quality comments

Here is a link to Mrs Yollis’ blog in California, in America: Mrs Yollis’ Classroom Blog.

This week in reading, please read a post and leave a quality comment. Then you can go to the Read and Write page to play a game.

🙂 Vashti

PS: REMEMBER:

WALT leave quality comments on the blog.

  1. Specific compliment
  2. Add information
  3. Make a connection
  4. Ask a question
  5. Proofread

Here are our reasons for leaving a quality comment:

To give an author encouragement to write more.

The compliment seems more SINCERE (honest and true) because it is specific.

To write in a more interesting way and get people to read our comments.

To make the author feel good.

To get more information.

To help people with their writing.

To start a conversation.

    Dear Vashti,

Thank you for visiting our blog and for leaving such a nice comment! We love blogging and it has really improved our reading and our writing skills. Plus, we have made friends all over the world!

You asked if I have ever been to New Zealand. No, I have not. I would love to one day. One of my former students (who is now grown up!) spent many weeks in New Zealand over the summer/your winter. She published lots of pictures from her trip and I must say, New Zealand is beautiful!

I saw that you had a post from ULearn10 in your blog. I was there for about 5 minutes! I Skyped with Mr. Webb from Room 8. 🙂 Do you know him?

What do you like about blogging? Have you been blogging long?

    Your friend,
    Mrs. Y♥llis

P.S. I am not familiar with WALT. What does that stand for? 🙂

    Dear Mrs Yollis,

Thanks for coming to our blog. We like your quality comment. We are learning a lot about how to comment by reading your blog and responses!

We thought we should start by telling you that WALT stands for We Are Learning To. Every time we start a lesson, we start with what we are learning to do. Then we make a list of the things we should do to be successful.

I was at ULearn10 but didn’t get to meet Mr. Webb at the conference, because I was learning about how to make videos. I did win a Skype phone though. I think our class will learn how to set up a Skype account to talk to people over the internet. We will let you know when we have set one up. Do you have a class Skype account? I wonder if our classes could talk to each other?

I have been blogging for many years, because I love writing poetry and short stories, but CS11 have been learning on our class blog for three terms, which is one and a half semesters in your school year. We like showing our families and friends our learning, and we also like finding our favourite songs on You Tube. We also enjoy playing games like Tutpup, and reading.

We hope to hear from you and your class again. We will come and visit you soon!

    Vashti and CS11

    @ Zia,

Thanks for responding to me! That’s always a nice thing to do for commenters! I hope you visit our blog again and leave a quality comment! 🙂

    @ Vashti,

Glad to hear that you are learning a lot from our blog. We have had our blog for about three years and we love it more and more. We’ve met so many wonderful people. Plus, our reading and writing skills are really improving…thanks to Panda’s tips!

We would love to Skype when you get set up. We are in the PST.

    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Y♥llis
