Another funny cat video…

Here are some things we learned today…

We learned…

About idioms! Idioms are… sayings like “Kick the bucket.”  The words mean something different together than what you think… Pulling your leg= joking, Raining cats and dogs= raining hard… Can you think of any more?

How to write condolence cards, or sympathy cards. They are cards that you give to people who are going through a bad time.

How to write Diamante poems! We learned how they are put together and we had a try at writing one about Mums and Dads…

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING VASHTI WANTS US TO REMEMBER:

We learned about staying safe on and off the blog. When we are on YouTube we have to check with parents or our teacher even if it is a song we know, because they might have swear words, they might have inappropriate language, put downs,  something that doesn’t fit with our beliefs, a message that isn’t very good, or it might have an idea that is for adults and not for kids. In class, we do not go on Youtube because we do not have permission to search it. We only have Waiata Tama songs or GirlZone songs or songs that our teacher has checked.

IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE HEARING- what it means- GET AN ADULT. ONLY GO ON THE INTERNET WITH AN ADULT IN THE ROOM.

Diamante Poems

We are learning to read and write poetry. Here is a link to our class activity on Diamante Poems:

We have been learning about persuasive writing. You can find our page of learning here: Persuasive Writing

Here is our group work  where we made advertisements to get our community ready in the event of a natural disaster:

Living and Learning

We worked on our self esteem this year, and confidence. We received compliments that we put into a Wordle. We are still working on this but we have our sheets in our book to work from. Here is the link: Wordles

4. Read symbols
5. Read labels

So far, we have been making a treasure map this week. You will be able to check these out in class next week!

Living and Learning: Self Esteem

We have been learning to build our self esteem

Self esteem is when you value yourself. That means you know you are a special person and that you
can achieve things.

We will know how to build our self esteem when:

1. We can say what we are good at
2. We can say what things are challenging for us
3. We can recognise times that we have been resilient
4. We can change negative thoughts into positive thoughts.

Here is some work we have done on positive thoughts:

The Book of Happy Chappies or the Story of Self Esteem

Check this out!

The Scale of the Universe (how big/tiny things are compared to each other.)

Coal Mining

Today we learned about the job the men were doing in the mine, and why they do it.

Maps: Making a Fire Escape Plan

Today we tried to work out a fire escape plan for school, and for our homes. Here is a link to a website where we can draw our home escape plan: NZ Fire Service Escape Plan Tool.

Our Chilean Miners Reports

A few weeks ago we wrote about the Chilean Miners. Now, some miners are trapped in New Zealand. Check out our reports on the rescue in Chile. We might not have such good news from Pike River, but we can remember that sometimes what we least expect can happen…

Our Chilean Miners Reports

Our E Learning!

Today we have been talking about how using computers and cameras has helped our learning. Here is a link to our Wallwisher Wall talking about what we use and what we learned:

Things we have learned today…

We learned some songs like Feliz Navidad, and Jingle Bell Rock, Upside Down and Maybe Tomorrow at assembly with Frank.

We learned about maps.

We practiced our kapa haka waiata and haka.

We learnt about the miners in the South Island at Pike River.

We went to the library and got some books out.

We learned what other people have had happen to them at news.

We learned how to connect our own stories in our lives to the stories we were reading.

Fluff learned about grass- he went on the grass for the first time!

We learned about map games that we could play online, and we found India (eventually!)
